The Denmark High School varsity softball team is used to having experience. Last year, a group of seniors played a big role for the team who took second place in the Northeastern Conference and was upset in regional play.

This year, with six returning starters, the Lady Vikes are keeping their heads held high despite the disappointing postseason run.

One of those six returning starters is back for her fourth year with the varsity squad, and she is definitely leading by example.

Leah Hansen, a senior at Denmark High School, is the lone senior on this year’s team. Hansen has been a lock at shortstop since her freshman season in 2014.

Hansen, First Team All-Northeastern Conference selection last year, has been doing phenomenal things for the past three years. This year, head coach Mike Vakselis expects nothing less.

“She’s not only a great player, she’s a great kid,” said Vakselis. “She’s a great leader and we expect a lot of great things from her for the rest of this season.”
