Denmark Softball Survives, One Game Away from State

By Alex Strouf, The Denmark News

Despite facing a 3-0 deficit in the first inning following a pair of Shawano home runs, the Lady Vikes of Denmark did not tuck their tails.

A big fourth inning surged Denmark to a 5-3 lead.

Juniors Taylor Wochenske and Abigail Metz each hit over-the-fence home runs on back-to-back pitches to tie the game at three each, but that wasn’t where the inning ended.

Juniors Lexie Habeck and Jayden Laurent each scored on a two-RBI single by senior Leah Hansen to give Denmark a 5-3 in the fourth inning, and they never looked back.

Sophomore pitcher Grace Nys allowed five hits, while three of them came in the first inning. She also struck out six batters.

Laurent was 3-of-4, while she reached base all four times and scored two runs. Hansen had three RBI for Denmark.

The Lady Vikes play New London at Winneconne High School on Thursday, June 1 with a trip to state on the line. Stay tuned to for updates.
