VS: Volleyball, Football Get Conference Wins

On August 31st, the Vikings hosted the Racine Saint Catherine’s Angels in a 18-hole match at Twin Oaks.  Last week the Vikings went down to Racine and beat the Angels on their home course and this week the Angels repaid the favor and beat the Vikings at Twin Oaks.  Team scores on the day were Racine Saint Catherine’s 421 and Denmark 435.  Leading the way for the Vikings with her third straight top-three finish was Abby Chada with a 104.  Carding a season best was Hailey Chada with a 110 and also with a 110 were Justine and Caitlyn Duckart. Emily Nelsen shot a 115 and senior Jonni VanRite finished with a career-best 131.

The Vikings blew their way to their first win of the season, blowing the Clintonville Truckers out of the water, 41-0. Junior running back Brandon Wavrunek led the way, rushing for a game-high 146 yards and a score, the second straight week the junior has run one in from more than 70 yards. Unofficially, the Vikings totaled 465 yards of offense in the blowout.
Denmark opened their Norheastern Conference coming out on top on the road in Waupaca (25-6, 25-8, 25-6). Denmark was led by sophomore Alayna Yttre with eight kills. Senior Jayden Laurent tacked on six kills and three blocks, while junior Abby O’Brien helped out with 9 digs.
On Thursday, the Denmark boy’s varsity soccer team opened their conference schedule on the road in Marinette. While it was a close match throughout, the Vikings fell short. Senior Matt Taicher and junior Bayron Hernandez each scored in Denmark’s 2-3 loss. Junior Seth Rau had 16 saves in the loss.
