The eighth-ranked Denmark High School varsity wrestling team suffered their first conference loss of the season on Thursday, coming at the hands of third-ranked Freedom.

The buzzer rang in the 145-pounders first.

From there, Freedom got rolling. Sam Peters picked up a major decision, Evan Vosters won via fall in 1:10, and Dakota Brockman got a decision to put Freedom up 13-3.

That’s when the senior night effect kicked in. Ryan Polomis picked up a big win on senior night, knocking off Brody Brozewski, 6-1.

Denmark senior heavyweight Joshua Frerk kept his perfect season going, picking up a pinfall in the first period. Frerk, the top ranked heavyweight in division two, is now 30-0 on the season.

Senior Raul Becerra also picked up a win by pinfall, knocking off Izak Coenen late in the second period.

Denmark freshman Ethan Schwartz rounded out the night by picking up a decision win in the final match of the night.

Schwartz and Frerk are each 7-0 in conference duals.

Denmark returns to the mat next Thurs., Jan 25, when it travels to Marinette.
