Denmark boys come up short in regional semifinals

DENMARK – The Denmark boys’ season came to a close with a 69-51 loss at Sheboygan Falls High School on Friday night in the regional semis.

The Vikings concluded a 14-10 season.

Denmark loses six players to graduation, including three who saw significant playing time – starter Josh Pelischek, Nick Rabas and Sam Sipiorski. The other seniors are Grant Vaskelis, Ryan Honnef and John Otradovec.

Denmark was hounded by the Falcons’ 1-3-1 zone that forced 20 turnovers. Sheboygan Falls also lit it up from three, knocking down 10 of 22. While the Vikings held leading scorer Jared Petrie to two first-half points, he went off for 23 in the second half.

Meanwhile, Denmark made only 1 of 10 from beyond the arc, though they shot it well inside it, making 20 of 36 shots.

The core junior trio led the way: Brady Jens finished with 16, including the final nine of the first half and the first two of the second, while Zane Short added 14 points and nine rebounds. Pat Suemnick grabbed 14 rebounds and scored eight points. Josh Pelischek had seven points.

Denmark trailed 29-26 at intermission.
