Leah Kralovetz placed second in the 3200- and 1600-meter runs at the 2018 WIAA State Track & Field tournament over the weekend, grabbing two medals in her first season of track in two years.
Kralovetz placed second in the 3200-meter on Friday night, running a personal best time of 10:53.55. Dana Feyen, a junior at Gale-Ettrick-Trempeleau (G.E.T.) High School, was the state champion, running a state-best time, counting all three divisions, of 10:36.06. Kralovetz and Feyen were the only two girls statewide to run the 3200 in under 11 minutes.
Feyen and Kralovetz also placed top two in the 1600-meter run on Saturday, with Feyen posting 5:00.2 and Kralovetz coming in just short of her with a personal and school record of 5:01.04.
Denmark senior Wyatt Gezella placed fifth in the 400-meter dash for the second straight year, running a 49.98 second lap. Gezella was right with the majority of runners, as the time separating third through seventh place was less than one second.
Denmark sophomore Seth Alexander took 11th place of 16 competitors in the division two long jump competition. Alexander was only one of two sophomores in the event, giving high hopes for future seasons.
The full story from the state meet will be available in June 7th’s edition of The Denmark News.
