Wastewater Overflow Contained

Residents should still check sump pumps

DENMARK—During the rain event on August 28th, 2018, the Village of Denmark Wastewater Treatment Facility, experienced an overflow from the lift station wet well. The intensity of the rainfall and the needed repairs to the collection system caused the overflow. The Village of Denmark sanitary sewer personnel responded to the incident and monitored the situation until the overflow stopped.
The overflow began at 5 p.m. and ended at 7 p.m. on August 28th. The actual or potential for human exposure and contact with the wastewater was extremely minimal. The Village has been and will continue to repair and rehabilitate the collection system to reduce the amount of infiltration and inflow entering the sanitary sewer system.
The Wisconsin Dept. of Natural Resources has been notified. Pursuant to the requirement of NR 210, this press release is being issued regarding tis event. Residents are encouraged to make sure that sump pumps are not connected to the sanitary sewer system. This will assist in reducing the inflow in to the sanitary sewer system.
