Viking boys draw 2 seed for basketball regionals

DENMARK – The Denmark Vikings have earned the No. 2 seed for one of the four Division 3 regional boys’ basketball tournaments that get under way on Feb. 26.

The Vikings drew a bye in the first round and will face the winner between 7 seed Sturgeon Bay and 10 seed Cedar Grove-Belgium on March 1 at Denmark High School.

Future possible regional matchups include games against familiar recent foes, including 3 seed Sheboygan Falls, who brought Denmark’s 2018 season to an end in the second round; 4 seed Valders, who Denmark beat handily in this year’s season opener; and top seed Southern Door, who handed Denmark one of its three losses this season. A rematch of that one would take place in the regional championship should both teams make it through the bracket.

Meanwhile, the Viking girls for the second straight season will take a No. 7 seed into a first-round battle on Feb. 19 against 10 seed New Holstein, also for the second consecutive year. A win would earn Denmark a trip to 2 seed Valders on Friday, Feb. 22.
