Shelter house storytime

Last Thursday, April 13, from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m., representatives from Brown County Library were in Denmark to host a special weekly story time at the shelter house in Memorial Park.

Summer School registration now open

With Mother Nature finally catching up with the calendar, it is easier to start to turn our attention to that wonderful season that comes next, summer. The Denmark School District is preparing for the coming season by getting details finalized for this year's Summer School program and they are excited for what is in store for this year's students.

Maribel April meeting

On Monday, April 10, the Village of Maribel held its monthly board meeting at their community center at the Maribel Lions Park. This month's meeting, attended by two other village residents besides the board, covered several important topics as well as updated board members and the public on a number of developing issues in the small municipality.

Cooperstown April meeting

Following the call to order and Pledge of Allegiance, various town officials delivered their monthly report to the board. First up was Dan Kasten with the month's road and equipment report. Kasten reported roads were being patched throughout the township noting the late snowfall had caused a lot of road damage due to the need to plow when there was no ground frost, but the roads had held up "considerably well".

Easter Egg Hunts

Last week, volunteers and the Easter Bunny were hard at work throughout the area to put on their annual Easter Egg Hunts at various locations. Thousands of eggs were hidden for hundreds of kids at three area events last weekend, and The Denmark News was there for it all.

Cooperstown Elections

Last month, The Denmark News reported on the precarious position the Town of Cooperstown found themselves in leading up to last week's election. The resignation of two Town Supervisors as well as the Town Chairman had created three vacant positions on the town board with no one originally stepping up to take their place on the spring ballot.

Memorial Park ball diamond improvements

The spring season has brought a new and exciting sight for baseball and softball players and fans at Memorial Park in Denmark. The new and improved ball diamond is all but completed and is looking amazing as athletes young and old start taking the field for the spring season.

All Saints Enrollment

To get some insight into what enrollment season means at area private schools, we sat down with All Saints Catholic School Principal Lisa Gruber to ask her what is in store for her school next year.

Glenmore April meeting

Last Monday, April 3, the Town of Glenmore held their monthly meeting at their community center in a subdued and emotional state.

Last Tuesday, April 04, voters from across the country converged on their local polling places to cast their ballots on a variety of candidates and issues. In Wisconsin, voters across the state voted on a highly contested state supreme court race while many local offices were also up for grabs.

Calvary Church found new use as VFW Hall

For many decades, Trinity Lutheran Church was the main church in the Denmark area. Located outside of town across the street from West Danish Cemetery on Maribel Road, this left the village of Denmark without a Lutheran church. Around the time Denmark incorporated as a village, residents started to express a desire for a new Lutheran church in the village.

DHS to present Arsenic and Old Lace

The stage is set, the players are cast and the final details are being assembled for a one of a kind performance that is sure to be a laugh filled good time for all who attend. This year's Denmark High School Spring Play, "Arsenic and Old Lace" is set to take the stage next weekend, April 14-16 with three performances in the Denmark Performing Arts Center.

Brass Buttons ride again

Last Sunday, April 02, Eddie Whipp's in Poland, Wisconsin was packed with hundreds of people, all gathered for a historic concert fifty years in the making. That afternoon from 1 to 4 p.m., The Brass Buttons, the legendary local polka band, held their 50th Anniversary Concert at the packed hall on Highway 29. The band, which had not played together for almost 15 years, came back together and wowed the crowd with their polka tunes.
