Behind the scenes of "Fiddler on the Roof"

Last weekend, Denmark High School Music Theatre premiered their production of "Fiddler on the Roof" to wide acclaim from the community. While audiences were thrilled with the nearly three-hour show, many are unaware of the months and months of hard work that go into making the final production a reality.

Halloween 2023

This year's Halloween will no doubt be remembered for one distinguishing factor --the unseasonably wintry conditions. While the annual trick-or-treat tradition is an iconic feature of fall, the frigid temperatures and on-and-off snowfall made this year's experience feel much more "Christmassy".

Maribel Caves Hotel destroyed by fire

The Maribel Caves Hotel was a long-time landmark in our area community. As discussed in last week’s article, the hotel opened as a luxury respite inspired by the resorts in the owner’s home country of Austria.

"Artistry in Wood" next weekend

Next weekend, a unique and intriguing event is scheduled for the large gymnasium at Denmark High School. On Saturday, November 11, and Sunday, November 12, the Northeast Wisconsin Woodworkers Guild will host their 40th annual "Artistry in Wood Show and Sale" featuring some of the top talent in the area demonstrating their abilities and showcasing their artwork for all to see.

Community Thanksgiving meal to return!

After a three-year hiatus, the annual Denmark Community Thanksgiving Meal is slated to return this year! Event organizers are hoping to welcome individuals and families in our community who are unable to celebrate a "traditional" Thanksgiving. These include those experiencing economic hardship, people without family in the area as well as those who are simply unable to prepare a meal for themselves.

Making a difference

Last Saturday, October 28, was observed across the country as "National Make a Difference Day" with volunteers going out and performing acts of kindness for people in their communities. In Denmark, this meant One Degree Youth Ministry's yearly day of service for those in need.

Denmark Trunk or Treat 2023

Last Saturday, the parking lot in front of Denmark Middle School was transformed into a fun and festive Halloween celebration. That afternoon, Devoted to Denmark hosted their annual Trunk or Treat event outside the school with hundreds upon hundreds of costumed youngsters and their families coming out for the fun.

Fiddler on the Roof this weekend and next

The stage is set, the cast is in place and the pit orchestra is fine-tuned for a spectacular performance at Denmark High School. This weekend and next, DHS Music Theatre will present "Fiddler on the Roof" in six performances that are sure to amaze.

Hotel coming to Denmark!

Last week, residents of the Denmark community received confirmation of an exciting and long-awaited development that will be starting in the village very soon. For months, if not years, rumors and speculation have circulated around a potential hotel in the Village of Denmark, something that will undoubtedly have a large impact on the municipality.

All Saints student activities

Students and staff at All Saints Catholic School in Denmark have had a busy and exciting start to the year. With less than two months in, they have already taken part in a number of fun activities. In the last two weeks alone, students have taken part in two fun and educational activities. 

Zion Methodist Harvest Dinner

Last Saturday, October 22, Zion United Methodist Church hosted their annual “Harvest Dinner & Bake Sale” fundraiser at their church on Chicago Street on the southeastern side of the Village of Denmark. All were welcome to join congregants for a delicious and hearty dinner in the festively decorated Parish Hall.

October School Board Meeting

On Monday, October 16, the Denmark School District held their monthly board meeting in the Media Center at Denmark High School. Apart from the historic decision regarding the ECC (see "OneDenmark", Page 1), the board heard several reports and updates from students, staff and administration about a number of ongoing developments in the district.

Prospective playground plans presented

Ever since passing last November, one referendum development that seems to draw a great deal of concern and debate from district residents is decisions surrounding playgrounds for the soon-to-be joint school. Many were concerned how the new playgrounds would handle the influx of students from the Early Childhood Center (ECC) with others expressing their dissatisfaction with the district's "decision" to not save or donate the old play-equipment.

Denmark Dispatch Returns

This semester, a select group of students at Denmark High School have been taking part in an "unconventional" class project, aimed at both teaching them about broadcasting as well as informing their fellow students. This month, the Denmark Dispatch is back and better than ever with a new class of students and all new episodes airing biweekly online.

School Board grants OneDenmark ECC

Last week's monthly school board meeting would have been nothing out of the ordinary had it not been for the historic vote at the very end of the evening's proceedings. The final item on last Monday night's agenda, prior to final input from board members and the setting of items for the next meeting, was "discussion and possible action pertaining to OneDenmark's request to acquire the ECC building".

Norsemen Steak Fry 2023

On Saturday, October 14, the Denmark Norsemen Snowmobile Club held their annual Steak Fry fundraiser at the Maribel Community Center. The event featured a delicious all-you-can-eat steak dinner with all the fixings served up by club members and their families. Along with the titular steak dinner, the event also featured a cash bar, bucket raffles and door prizes.
