Farewell Father Santy

This week, parishioners of the St. James and St. Joseph Catholic churches, as well as many others in the community, were deeply saddened by the departure of Reverend Santiago Turiano who has served both parishes for nearly five years. In his time here, Father Santy has endeared himself to many of his congregants, and he will be sincerely missed by the communities he served.

Schoo's out for summer!

Last week, students and staff across the Denmark area rejoiced with the end of another successful school year. As always, this was cause for much excitement and fun across all grade levels.

Brown County Breakfast on the Farm 2024

On Sunday, thousands upon thousands flocked to Wiese Brothers Farms near Greenleaf for a yearly tradition celebrating local agriculture. That morning, Brown County Dairy Promotions hosted their annual "Breakfast on the Farm" at the large family dairy farm featuring delicious food and fun for all ages.

3rd Grade Bike Rodeo

Last Friday, Salm Partners partnered with the Brown County Sheriff's Department to put on a fun, end-of-year activity aimed at educating students about safety. That afternoon, they hosted the annual "Bike Rodeo" safety event for Denmark Elementary School 3rd grade students in Memorial Park. The Denmark News was live on the scene to learn more.

DSD Staff Awards Ceremony

On Friday, May 24, Denmark School District staff and administration gathered in the DHS Performing Arts Center for a ceremony celebrating their peers' achievements and milestones. The presentation was held in the afternoon of the PDT half-day following a lunch provided by the Denmark FFA.

Denmark at the NCFL Grand National

Last weekend, several area young people had the opportunity to showcase their top-notch talents on the national stage. On May 25 and 26, six Denmark High School students competed in the National Catholic Forensic League Grand National Tournament in Chicago. There, they competed against the best in the country in a variety of performance categories.

Memorial Day Services 2024

Last Monday, veterans organizations across the country gathered at cemeteries, churches, memorials and parks to perform their annual patriotic duty and honor their comrades who have fallen. In Denmark, members of VFW Post 6705 and American Legion Post 363 made their yearly circuits of local cemeteries to lay flowers on, say prayers over and pay respects to veterans interred there.

Big Mouth rocks DMS!

Last Tuesday, students, staff, parents and community members gathered in the Denmark Middle School gymnasium for a one-of-a-kind concert showcasing local talent alongside some of the best around. That night, DMS hosted Big Mouth & the Power Tool Horns for a night of fun and great music. The Denmark News was in attendance to learn more about this unique opportunity.

Graduation 2024

On Sunday, June 2, 2024, students, faculty, family and friends gathered to commemorate and celebrate the Denmark High School Graduating Class of 2024 in the school's gymnasium. The commencement ceremony featured student speakers, performances and the presentation of various awards. The Denmark News was in attendance to share the senior's send off with our readers.

Maribel Lions receive EpiPen training

During last Tuesday's annual Maribel Lions Spring Fry Out, Lions members and their spouses received information and training on a very important subject. That night, Angel and George Mueller from the Dillon Mueller Memorial Fund provided all in attendance with vital training on how to properly and safely administer epinephrine (EpiPens) to individuals experiencing severe allergic reactions.

DHS Band performs at DES

Last Wednesday morning, the gymnasium at Denmark Elementary School was brimming with energy and excitement. That morning, the Denmark High School Band, under the direction of Ms. Vicky Wilda, performed a special preview concert for the DES students and staff to celebrate the end of another school year as well as demonstrate what Denmark's band program has to offer.

Our Savior's Wild Game Feed 2024

Last Tuesday, Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Denmark opened their doors for the 18th annual Charity Wild Game Feed to support their parish. That evening, supporters from across the Denmark area and beyond gathered under a large tent behind the church where they took part in raffles, a live auction and, of course, an incredible meal consisting of a variety of "unconventional" food offerings.

Fine Arts Awards Banquet 2024

On Wednesday, May 22, Gatherings 43 played host to an annual celebration commemorating young artistic talent in the Denmark community. That night, students, staff and parents gathered in the hall for the yearly Fine Arts Banquet highlighting achievements in band, chorus, drama and the visual arts throughout the school year.

DHS Civics Team wins state!

This month, six Denmark High School students earned the prestigious right to call themselves "state champions'' with a triumphant victory at the Wisconsin State Civics Games in Madison on May 10. Last week, we spoke with the team's advisor--DHS social studies teacher Zack Olson--and one of its members--Henry Pahlow--to learn more about this unique opportunity.

Cooperstown May 2024 meeting

Last Tuesday, the Town of Cooperstown hosted its monthly board meeting at their Town Hall in Rosecrans. This was the first meeting since the reduction of the board from five to three members with Supervisors Nick Propson and Fred Lemmens vacating their now nonexistent seats last month.

Maribel May 2024 meeting

On Monday, May 13, the Maribel Village Board held their monthly meeting in the Maribel Community Center. The meeting was attended by the board, staff, a handful of residents, representatives from Robert E. Lee & Associates and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
