The stage is set, the lights are positioned and the cast is ready for an unforgettable performance this weekend in the Denmark High School Performing Arts Center. "The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940" will take the stage Friday, Saturday and Sunday featuring a cast of zany characters and a story that will keep you guessing and laughing throughout.

On Sunday, hundreds upon hundreds of people filled the Denmark High School (DHS) gymnasium for an annual spring musical tradition. That afternoon, the middle school and high school bands came together for this year's Band Extravaganza featuring hundreds of students across three bands performing for a packed house. The Denmark News stopped by to take in this year's celebration of musical talent.

In three weeks, when the NFL Draft madness descends on Green Bay and the surrounding area, a Denmark culinary artisan will be featured, representing and raising money for a great local organization, in a competition centering around a regional staple. On Friday, April 25, the first-ever Green Bay "Booyah Battle" will be held on Washington Street with 13 area nonprofits competing for top prizes.

Last week, we sat down with Village of Denmark Trustee Brandon Ackley for a special "Getting to Know You" or "Ask Me Anything" interview to learn more about issues the Village faces and the work being done by the municipal government to meet them. Ackley was kind enough to invite us into his home on Grand Avenue Wednesday morning to answer our questions.

Last week, a well-known local woman gained even wider recognition as part of WFRV's "Remarkable Women" series. On Wednesday, Denmark's own Betty Duckett was featured on the Channel 5 evening news broadcast for her decades of community service and commitment.

During Sunday's Band Extravaganza (see page 1), attendees once again had a chance to take in a variety of other student-made art along with the day's music. That afternoon, art teachers from across the Denmark schools came together to showcase a vast array of their students' work in the large Athletic Atrium. Before, during and after the band concert, attendees could peruse the selected artworks at their leisure.

Last week, motorists driving through downtown Denmark were encountered by barricades, signs and orange barrels indicating a road closure and detour. From Monday morning until Thursday afternoon, Main Street, in the center of town, was closed to traffic as crews completed utility work for the ongoing Bank First demolition and rebuilding project.

Last Wednesday, the Village of Denmark Economic Development Committee held a Public Information Meeting regarding a parcel of land that may become Denmark's newest neighborhood. The roughly 34-acre lot is situated between Hager Road and County Highway R and is currently owned by the Village who are now in negotiations to potentially sell it to Lexington Homes.

This week, motorists in downtown Denmark were met with an unexpected obstacle when making their way down Main Street. From Monday morning through Thursday afternoon, the thoroughfare was closed in front of the Bank First site with drivers being told to take a detour around town. Last week, Denmark Connects was back at it once again with another unique and thoughtful event aimed at bringing our community members closer together. On Friday morning, they joined with the Brown County ADRC to commemorate the culmination of the first-ever Denmark "Time Slips" initiative. The Denmark News was in attendance to learn more.

This month, the Village of Denmark announced they have launched a new, free service aimed at keeping residents informed. “The Denmark Bulletin” is a monthly online newsletter delivered directly to residents’ email inboxes and is filled with news and information pertinent to anyone who lives or works in the village.

Last Tuesday, students from Denmark Elementary School got the chance to get an up-close-and-personal look at the professional broadcasting world. That day, crew members from the school’s video morning announcement program--“The Daily Buzz”--had the opportunity to visit both WLUK and WFRV studios in a whirlwind field trip. Students were able to tour each studio and learned about the equipment necessary for each broadcast.

Last week, the Denmark Village Board unanimously approved an offer from Lexington Homes to purchase roughly 34 acres of property located within the municipality’s TIF District. We have been informed Lexington has plans to use the purchased land to construct both another apartment complex as well as over fifty new homes.

On Friday evening, much of the greater Denmark community descended on Washington Street in downtown Green Bay for a truly one-of-a-kind night out on the town. That night, the historic Meyer Theater was host to an evening of music, showmanship, laughs and even a little magic all surrounding the final public performance of a Denmark legend–Tom VanGroll–who is better known to his legions of fans as “TV Tommy” or “Wimpy”.
