DHS Bands Update

With only one month in, the Denmark High School Bands have already had an exciting and busy year in 2024. Director Vicky Wilda and her students have been hard at work over the past few weeks with a number of activities aimed at showcasing and honing their tremendous talent.

Community remembers Lawrence Mancheski

Last week, many in the Denmark area were saddened to hear about the passing of longtime community fixture Lawrence Mancheski on Friday January 19, 2024. Mancheski was very well known and respected throughout the community for both his decades-long career in local business and his lifetime commitment to local organizations.

Local talent showcased in short film

Last weekend, one Denmark area resident got to experience something that few, if any, readers can say they have also done, much less at the age of 13. On Sunday, Tyler Love attended the premiere of a short film he co-starred in "The Last Rung On the Ladder" at Venue 404 in Oshkosh. The film is part of the Dollar Baby Program sponsored by renowned author Stephen King.

Construction class tours referendum jobsite

Last Tuesday, students from Denmark High School's construction class were able to take part in a one-of-a-kind tour aimed at teaching them more about different aspects of trades. That morning, the students were led on a guided tour of the active referendum improvement jobsite in order to learn more about the various crafts at work and how they are able to successfully work together to pull off large projects.

New book from author with local roots

This month, a Denmark area native achieved something very few can also claim when his first book was published. On January 9, Matt Dixon released "Swamp Monsters: Trump vs. DeSantis--the Greatest Show on Earth (or at Least in Florida)” telling the inside story of the tumultuous relationship between the two allies turned rivals and their competing campaigns for the US Presidency.

FBLA Cookie Cook-Off 2024

Last Thursday, students at Denmark High School had the chance to take part in a unique and tasty contest and help support a great organization at the same time. During that day's lunch periods, the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) hosted their third annual Cookie Cook-Off, pitting student's baking skills against one another to raise funds for their chapter.

Snowmobilers hit the trails

While many (if not most) dread and detest the annual snowfall, one group of hobbyists eagerly await the falling flakes each year. Last week, area snowmobilers took to the trails to chase their yearly rush and enjoy the snow cover while it lasts.

Christian Unity Week 2024

On Sunday, January 21, all we welcome to join together at Gatherings 43 for an annual tradition aimed at bringing area Christians of differing denominations together. That afternoon, a number of area churches hosted their annual prayer service commemorating this year's Christian Unity Week.

Denmark American Legion Blue Star Program

In 2024, the Denmark American Legion Johnson-Hershman Post #363 is taking up a noble mission to both recognize and honor those in our community who are currently serving our country in the armed forces. This year, the Legion will be presenting Blue Star Banners for families with members on active duty to display, and they need your help to make sure everyone eligible is properly identified.

OneDenmark encourages supporters to "give BIG"

Next month, the local community building organization--OneDenmark--will be participating in an exciting endeavor aimed at spreading their message and raising the necessary funds to carry out their efforts.

Denmark apartment fire

Last Thursday, area firefighters and first responders were called into action for an emergency event in the Village of Denmark. That afternoon, a fire occurred at the Denmark Non Profit Housing Corporation apartment building on the western side of Highridge Avenue leading to the evacuation and ongoing displacement of some residents.

New Bookmobile stop!

Big news for readers in the Denmark area! The Brown County Library Bookmobile recently announced it will be making an additional stop in the Village of Denmark to serve the community until they are able to reopen a branch there. Currently, the Bookmobile makes a stop near Main Street Market on Railroad Avenue on the second Monday of each month from 4-6 p.m., allowing readers to return and pick up new materials from BCL’s collection.

Maribel January Meeting

On Monday, January 8, the Maribel Village Board held their monthly meeting in their community center in the village park.

January School Board Meeting

Last Monday night, the School District of Denmark held their monthly board meeting in the Denmark High School Media Center. Following the call to order, Pledge of Allegiance and roll call that showed all members in attendance, the board unanimously approved the evening's consent agenda before moving on to monthly reports to the board.

Village of Denmark January Meeting

Last Monday, the Village of Denmark held their first monthly meeting of 2024 at their new Village Hall in the former BMO Harris Bank building on the corner of Wisconsin Avenue and North Wall Street.

Selner delivers "State of the Village"

During last week's Village of Denmark monthly meeting, Village President Susan Selner provided the board and all in attendance with her annual "State of the Village" update to reflect on the year that has passed as well as look ahead to what is to come for the municipality.
