Mishicot Summer Concerts

Last Wednesday, music fans from across the area assembled in the gymnasium at Mishicot Elementary School for a night of great polka sound courtesy of Jerry Voelker & the Jolly Gents. Starting at 6:30 p.m., Voelker and his talented band took to the stage and blasted out hit after hit as the crowd danced and listened along.

OneDenmark hosts listening session with Brown County Library

Last Thursday June 29, the community building organization One Denmark hosted a "listening session" with representatives from Brown County Library at the Early Childhood Center (ECC) to discuss and brainstorm a potential partnership between the two in the near future.

Boys of Summer this weekend

This week, final preparations are underway on the ball diamonds and adjoining facilities at Circle Tap and Memorial Park for a legendary couple days of softball. This weekend, the two venues will host the annual Boys of Summer tournament, featuring non-stop fast pitch softball action from some of the best players from across the world over the course of four short days.

Barn fire in New Denmark

Last Thursday June 29, local firefighters from across the area were hard at work fighting an early morning fire in a barn in the Town of New Denmark.

June School Board Meeting

On Monday June 26, the School District of Denmark held their monthly board meeting in the media center (library) of the high school. Topics of discussion included an update on the upcoming referendum and changes to the district's handbooks among many others.

Selner's Plea for the ECC

During last week's June School Board Meeting held in the media center of the high school, Village of Denmark President Susan Selner provided a request to the board pertaining to the future of the current Early Childhood Center (ECC) building and grounds. 

Maribel Picnic 2023

Last weekend, thousands descended on the normally peaceful Village of Maribel for two days filled with excitement and fun for all. On Saturday June 24 and Sunday June 25, the Maribel Lions hosted their annual summer picnic at their park in the heart of the village. Each day of the event was jam packed with events and activities for attendees of all ages to enjoy and fun was available for all who attended.

141 Speedway under new ownership

Big changes are underway at 141 Speedway, eight miles south of Denmark, as a new, yet familiar, face takes over the historic racetrack. Last Tuesday, June 20th, Tim Czarneski officially took over as owner and operator with his new partner Toby Kruse, a dirt racing promoter who has been an owner of the track for the last nine years.

LOCAL EATS - Fat Boyz 2

For this month's Local Eats dining feature, we took a trip out to beautiful Tisch Mills for a bite at the renowned Fat Boyz 2. Located at the intersection of County Highways BB and B in historic downtown Tisch Mills, Fat Boyz has been serving up refreshing drinks, delectable food and good times for over two decades.

"Frogger" returns to Denmark

Last Thursday June 22, downtown Denmark was once again host to a unique safety test, aimed at testing drivers’ response to pedestrians in the crosswalk. For two hours that morning, green clad volunteer Pam Cornelius walked back and forth across Main Street in the crosswalk between Main Street Market and Bank First, testing to see if drivers would yield to her as they are required to.

Bingo Brunch

Last Wednesday, June 21st, the Denmark Community Activity Center hosted their monthly “Bingo Brunch” event. The center, along with Scandinavian Court Assisted Living just down the street, has been hosting the events at 11:30 a.m. on the third Wednesday of every month since October and, so far, they have been a great success. This month, attendees enjoyed a taco bake with numerous sides and desserts while visiting with one another.

Daybreak Estates speed limit to be reduced

Last week Monday, at their June monthly meeting, the Denmark Village Board unanimously approved a plan they believe will help ease safety concerns in the Daybreak Estates neighborhood on the northernmost edge of the village.

Village of Denmark June Meeting

Apart from the major changes to Daybreak Estates, the Village of Denmark addressed and acted on several other important issues at their regular monthly meeting, held last Monday afternoon at the new Village Hall.

Maribel June Meeting

On Monday, June 12, the Maribel Village Board held their monthly meeting at the Community Center in the village park. First up on the "Old Business" portion of the meeting's agenda was an update on the village's use of Manitowoc County American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds. Clerk Dale Bomski explained that Degroot Construction had recently completed the installation of four new fire hydrants throughout the village at a cost of $33,250.

Cooperstown June Meeting

Last Tuesday night, the Town of Cooperstown held their monthly board meeting at their Town Hall in Rosecrans. Following the call to order by Chairman Dave Blakeslee and the Pledge of Allegiance, the board unanimously approved the meeting's agenda as well as the minutes from previous meetings before proceeding into the monthly reports from village officials.
