New Bank to be built

Last week, Bank First announced their intentions to construct a new state-of-the-art banking facility on the same site as their current location in downtown Denmark. To learn more about this exciting news, we sat down with Bank First Market President Toby Olsen last Wednesday.

North Avenue reconstruction project begins

Last week, drivers in the Denmark area may have noticed some new developments and activity on the northeast side of town. On Monday, crews began work on the extensive North Avenue and Danish Way reconstruction project disrupting traffic throughout the summer until the project is complete. This week, we thought it would be appropriate to outline the project that lies ahead.

Denmark Legion to take part in "Cruise for a Cause"

Next Saturday, the streets of Denmark will be filled with the roar of motorcycles as a group of Veterans make their way through town for a great cause. That afternoon, The Denmark American Legion Johnson-Hershman Post 363 will host a stop on this year's Wisconsin Legion Riders "Cruise for a Cause" entitled "Stu's Cruise - 24".

Village of Denmark June 2024 Meeting

Last Monday, the Village of Denmark hosted their monthly board meeting in Village Hall. Following the call to order , Pledge of Allegiance and roll call showing all members and staff present, the board opened the floor to pre-registered village residents to be heard.

Cooperstown June 2024 Meeting

Last Tuesday night, the Town of Cooperstown held their monthly board meeting at their Town Hall in Rosecrans. Following the call to order, Pledge of Allegiance and roll call showing all members in attendance, the board unanimously approved the night's agenda and the prior meetings' minutes before moving on to monthly reports from town officials.

Maribel June 2024 Meeting

On Monday, June 10, the Maribel Village Board held their monthly board meeting in their community center. Following the call to order, Pledge of Allegiance and roll call showing all members present, the board unanimously approved the night's agenda, previous meeting's minutes and the monthly deposits and vouchers before moving on to input from the public.

5K Food Drive

Last Thursday, Denmark Early Childhood Center (ECC) students took part of their last day of school to contribute to a great cause. That morning, ECC 5K students made the trek to the nearby Denmark Community Cupboard to drop off hundreds of items to help those in need in our community. 

Calling all young readers!

This summer, children in the Denmark community will be able to take part in a new and fun program aimed at promoting reading over summer vacation. The Denmark Community Summer Reading Program is set to kick off this month with prizes available for young readers at three events this summer. Last week, we spoke with the program's organizers to learn more about this new initiative.

40th annual Curran Community Club Tournament next weekend

Next weekend, one and all are invited to take part in a tournament four decades in the making. On June 21, 22 and 23, the Curran Community Club will host their 40th annual Slow-Pitch Softball Tournament on Father Bill O'Brien Field in downtown Curran, Wisconsin. The weekend is set to be three days of fun as well as a celebration of tournaments passed.

Town of Glenmore discusses election integrity

Last Monday, the Town of Glenmore held their monthly board meeting in their Community Center near Shirley. While the meeting was mostly routine, it did turn hostile and tense at numerous points when the subject of election integrity was repeatedly raised.

8th Grade Promotion 2024

On Thursday, June 6, Denmark Middle School hosted a special ceremony celebrating the advancement of its students. That morning, the school held their annual 8th Grade Promotion in the large gymnasium at Denmark High School commemorating students who will be advancing from middle to high school in September.

Farewell Father Santy

This week, parishioners of the St. James and St. Joseph Catholic churches, as well as many others in the community, were deeply saddened by the departure of Reverend Santiago Turiano who has served both parishes for nearly five years. In his time here, Father Santy has endeared himself to many of his congregants, and he will be sincerely missed by the communities he served.

Schoo's out for summer!

Last week, students and staff across the Denmark area rejoiced with the end of another successful school year. As always, this was cause for much excitement and fun across all grade levels.

Brown County Breakfast on the Farm 2024

On Sunday, thousands upon thousands flocked to Wiese Brothers Farms near Greenleaf for a yearly tradition celebrating local agriculture. That morning, Brown County Dairy Promotions hosted their annual "Breakfast on the Farm" at the large family dairy farm featuring delicious food and fun for all ages.

3rd Grade Bike Rodeo

Last Friday, Salm Partners partnered with the Brown County Sheriff's Department to put on a fun, end-of-year activity aimed at educating students about safety. That afternoon, they hosted the annual "Bike Rodeo" safety event for Denmark Elementary School 3rd grade students in Memorial Park. The Denmark News was live on the scene to learn more.

DSD Staff Awards Ceremony

On Friday, May 24, Denmark School District staff and administration gathered in the DHS Performing Arts Center for a ceremony celebrating their peers' achievements and milestones. The presentation was held in the afternoon of the PDT half-day following a lunch provided by the Denmark FFA.
