This fall, crews have been hard at work at Neshota Park with a new addition that is sure to be a source of endless fun and memories. This month, The Friends of Neshota Park, in partnership with the Brown County Parks Department, officially announced the completion of a brand new Campfire Circle at the local county park. Last week, we spoke with Wendy Rowsam from the Friends of Neshota Park to learn more.

Neshota Park has been serving area families as a go-to outdoor destination for nearly half a century. In 2014, the Friends of Neshota Park was founded with the stated mission of "promoting, protecting and enhancing" Neshota Park. In the decade since, the organization has gone about facilitating and spearheading numerous improvements and upkeep projects throughout the park including the new playground and improvements to the shelter house.

The Friends of Neshota Park's most recent project was the addition of a new campfire circle to serve visitors for years to come. After coming up with a design for the new fire pit, the Friends of Neshota Park partnered with the Brown County Parks Department to make their dream a reality. Adam Fidler and Custom AF Construction LLC of Maribel were hired to complete the project with a portion of the Friend's funding coming from a generous donation from the Town of New Denmark. Over the course of this fall, Fiddler and his team installed the new fire pit and the concrete walkway surrounding it.

The new four-foot campfire ring is conveniently located behind the park's shelter house and also features a large new grill and Aldo Leopold-style benches arranged around it. The fire pit is available to use by any park visitors and a small amount of wood will be available to use near the shelter house. The Friends of Neshota Park are hoping the new ring will be used this winter by visiting snowshoers and skiers and also are excited for the additional place for shelter house renters to gather and enjoy the park. This spring, the Friends of Neshota Park plan to plant flowers and lay wood chips to complete the area surrounding the new fire pit.

The new campfire ring at Neshota Park is the result of months of planning and work on behalf of the Friends of Neshota Park, the Brown County Parks Department and their partnering contractors and will hopefully serve park visitors for generations to come. The Friends of Neshota Park state, "This project reflects the Friends' mission to promote, protect and enhance the park. It's also an excellent example of how donations to the Friends directly support meaningful improvements to Neshota Park." So, if you are looking for some outdoor fun anytime of year, grab your blankets, chairs and s’more materials and head out to Neshota Park!
