This new year, a new program is underway in the Village of Denmark aimed at assisting those in need during the winter season. This month, Denmark Connects is launching a "Snow Angel" initiative in the village to help facilitate snow removal for those unable to complete the task themselves. Last week, we sat down with Denmark Connects Campaign Manager Molly Arneson to learn more.

The new Snow Angel program is intended to provide a way for village residents who cannot clear their own driveways to communicate with others willing and able to help. Those who desire assistance would simply place a Snow Angel sign on an outward facing window of their home signaling good Samaritans throughout the community to stop by with their shovels or snow blowers. There is no sign-up, schedules or commitments, or as Arneson puts it, "See a need, fill a need, it's the neighborly thing to do!"

Arneson further explains that, although the program was designed with our community's senior citizens in mind, it could also be a useful resource for residents in a number of other situations including someone recovering from surgery, experiencing medical issues or a caregiver to someone they can't leave unattended.

Village residents who would benefit from the new Denmark Connects Snow Angel initiative are asked to pick up their own white signs at a number of locations throughout town including Hardware Hank, DeGrand's, The Community Closet, The Denmark Community Activity Center and The Denmark News office. Once picked up, signs should be placed in an outward facing window easily visible from the street. Hopefully, when the next snow falls, a helpful neighbor will see the sign and provide assistance.

While the Denmark Connects Snow Angel program is an awesome initiative, it can only succeed with your help. Please help spread awareness about the initiative with both those who would benefit from its services and those who would be willing to help clearing snow. Anyone with questions about the program is asked to contact Molly Arneson at 920-360-4659.
