The horses respond gracefully to their riders’ deft manipulations – so deft they are undetectable to the layman’s eye – and within a minute the horses maneuver into semi-circle and present a nearly perfect equestrian array.

PSC Approves $15 Million for Brown County Digester

HOLLAND — Southern Brown County is slated to be the host for an anaerobic digestion system for dairy manure after the Public Service Commission preliminarily approved $15 million for BC Organics, LLC—a 27-member consortium—to receive waste from nine farms which combine for nearly 23,000 animals in a $57.5 million project.

Manure Spreading, Runoff Under Fire

MADISON — When one-third of Kewaunee County’s private wells tested positive for bacterial contamination in 2014, some pointed to a massive cattle population and others pointed to faulty septic systems. Ongoing study has linked manure from Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs) to the county’s polluted groundwater and has influenced proposed revisions to the Department of Natural Resources’ (DNR) manure spreading requirements.
