This weekend, deal seekers and treasure hunters from across the area and beyond will set their sights on our community for an annual bargaining tradition over 30 years in the making. On Friday and Saturday, the DCBA will host the 34th Annual Denmark Village-Wide Rummage Sale featuring over 100 individual vendors spread across the village and the surrounding area.

Last week, many in the community and beyond were saddened to hear of the shuttering of a longtime Denmark institution. On Wednesday, it was officially announced that All Saints Catholic School will be closing for good, effective the first of July this year. The school has been a longstanding feature of the Denmark community, and generations of families have attended since its opening in 1958.

Over the weekend, children and their families from across the area and beyond converged upon parks, playgrounds and yards searching for this year's sugary treasure during a number of traditional egg hunts. On Thursday, several community members from across the Denmark area gathered at Duck Creek Vineyard & Winery for an evening of recognition, reflection and reintroduction. That night, the Denmark Lions Club hosted their first-ever Appreciation & Information Night in the large barroom featuring food, drinks, socialization and education on all it means to be a Lion and the wide impact the organization has.

Last Tuesday, the Denmark High School (DHS) Performing Arts Center (PAC) hosted a fun and fast-paced concert showcasing young local musical talent. That night, the Denmark Elementary School Treble Makers took the stage for their annual concert featuring nearly 100 singers from ages 8 to 11. The Denmark News was in attendance to learn more.

Last week, the municipality of Glenmore, Wisconsin, experienced a brief and befuddling crisis of government. After a contentious and drama-ridden election cycle, things were made all the more complicated over a disagreement of the legal procedure for the newly-elected board members and staff to assume their offices.

Last Monday, the Denmark School Board held their monthly meeting in the Denmark High School (DHS) Media Center. Following the call to order, Pledge of Allegiance and roll call showing all members present, the board unanimously approved the night's consent agenda before moving on to the evening's presentations.

Last Monday night, the Glenmore Town Board held their regular monthly meeting in their Community Center near Shirley. Although the ending of the meeting grew tense and confrontational (see Glenmore: Government in Crisis), up until that point, the proceedings had been mostly routine.

On Sunday, Gatherings 43 in Denmark was host to a special event commemorating six decades of service to the community. That afternoon, the Maribel Lions hosted their 60th Anniversary Celebration in the hall featuring speeches, awards, prizes and reflection on over half a century of commitment to community betterment. On Saturday, the Denmark High School Athletic Atrium was transformed into a swanky dance venue for an annual spring tradition. That night, the DHS Junior class hosted this year’s Prom with a theme of “The Great Gatsby”. This was the first-ever Prom to be held in the Atrium, and the Class of 2026 successfully decorated the space complete with “chandeliers” and hundreds of strands of twinkle lights.

During last week's Denmark Village Board meeting, a major topic of discussion was a potential new park to be installed on the corner of Broadway and Pine Street. This topic was first officially raised during the board's February meeting when they approved Parkitecture to draft some preliminary designs for the space.

On Sunday, the Denmark High School Performing Arts Center was host to an afternoon of music. That day, the Denmark Knights of Columbus Father Platta Council #4735 hosted the MacDowell Male Chorus for a second annual concert featuring a diverse line up of songs that showcased the group’s unique talents. Last week, motorists and pedestrians passing through downtown Denmark could see the beginnings of a new building taking shape. Throughout the past week, crews have been hard at work pouring the base level of the soon-to-be new Bank First branch building on the site of the former Denmark State Bank headquarters.
