Fall fun in Mishicot this weekend

On Saturday, the nearby Village of Mishicot will be teaming with autumnal excitement and fall fun for an annual commemoration of the harvest season. From 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., Pumpkinfest 2025 will take over the community with a wide range of opportunities to celebrate all the season, and the community, has to offer.

"Guilty x2!"

This week, one local business owner is sleeping easier knowing justice has been served after a lengthy legal battle. On October 2, Kirk Drury was found guilty for the robbery of the Denmark Saloon in 2021, joining his accomplice in the crime--Joseph Lapere--who was found guilty earlier this year.

Firemen face-off

On Saturday, units from twelve area fire departments converged on a site west of Kellnersville for a test of their skills. The dozens of firefighters joined together not to battle a blaze, but rather to battle each other in a friendly competition. That day, Troubadour Vineyard and Events hosted their Second Annual Fireman's Games featuring a dozen departments facing off in four different traditional events.

Hermans Heating & AC helps local couple "Feel the Love"

On Friday, the friendly team from Hermans Heating & AC were hard at work spreading warmth in multiple ways in an attempt to help a local couple "feel the love". That morning, the Hermans and their knowledgeable technicians tasked themselves with installing a brand new Lennox furnace and air conditioner in the home of Marvin and Judy Kostka at no charge during this year's annual "Feel the Love" initiative.

HC25 - DHS students give back

During all the excitement and fun that makes up the annual celebration of Homecoming, Denmark High School (DHS) students took some time to do some good for those in need. For several years now, the Homecoming festivities have included initiatives that go beyond school spirit and aim to make a positive impact in the community and beyond.

While the end result of Friday night's Homecoming football game may not be what Viking fans would have wanted, the main event match-up provided many opportunities to experience and celebrate the talents and abilities of Denmark students throughout.

HC25 - Denmark Homecoming 2025

Throughout last week, the Denmark School District, and the greater community as a whole, took part in a longstanding and beloved fall tradition decades in the making. Homecoming 2025 hit Denmark with the usual sights and sounds all have come to expect including toilet papered trees, marching band music and an explosive main-event football game.

HC25 - Pride of the Vikings

On Friday morning, the student body of Denmark High School (DHS) gathered in the Gold Gymnasium for an annual celebration of class pride and school spirit. This year's Homecoming Pep Rally succeeded in firing up students before the night's big game with over four hours of zany and off-the-wall competitions to determine which grade level has the most school spirit.

On Friday afternoon, the streets of the Village of Denmark came alive for this year's Homecoming Parade. A variety of school teams and organizations were highlighted in the procession as spectators cheered on from the side of the street. The Denmark News was stationed at our regular parade viewing spot near Village Hall to take in this year's spectacle for ourselves.

Homecoming fun for all

While the bulk of the traditional Homecoming celebrations centered around the high school, students and staff at the elementary and middle schools also found numerous opportunities to get in on the fun. Throughout the week, each school hosted a number of fun activities including dress-up days, pep rallies and fundraisers. We spoke with staff from each school to learn more.

Saturday fun on Lily Lake

On Saturday, hundreds of automobile enthusiasts, prize seekers and general fun lovers filled the shore of Lily Lake for a yearly event that brings together the Polish Legion of American Veterans - Poland Post 186 (PLAV) and the Monkey Business Fun Club for a one-of-a-kind car show on a one-of-a-kind lake.

Denmark Rod & Gun Club celebrates end of season

On Thursday night, the smell of powder and the sound of gunfire filled the air as local sportsmen commemorated the end of another successful season of shooting. That night, the Denmark Rod & Gun Club hosted their annual Fun Night and Banquet with the season's top shooters facing off in a friendly competition of marksmanship. The Denmark News was in attendance to witness the final shoot-offs for ourselves.

HC25 - Dancing in "The Woods"

This past Saturday night brought with it the traditional Homecoming Dance with all the associated pomp and circumstance. This year’s celebration came with a change of venue with the dance being held at The Woods Golf Club in Green Bay instead of the high school gymnasium. For several hours, Denmark High School students took over the event venue for an evening of dancing and socializing with music provided by a DJ.

Wisconsin Lion's Eyeglass Mission -- We Serve

For many years the Wisconsin Lions have gone on Eyeglass Missions to such countries as Mexico, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Dominican Republic and Haiti. Most all the missions consisted of approximately 30 Lions who work with the 12,000 pairs of glasses that are shipped ahead of time. The exceptions to shipping glasses ahead of time were the trips to Haiti.

Viking Academy students attend Trees for Tomorrow

Last month, students from the Denmark School District's alternative school--Viking Academy--embarked on a four-day learning adventure in the northern woods of Wisconsin. From September 7-10, students attended this year's Trees for Tomorrow program in Eagle River which featured an immersive and educational experience focused on the study of biology, ecology and survival skills.

Artistic wonders with a "Nostalgic Twist"

Last week, we ventured just southwest of Shirley to get a firsthand look at a one-of-a-kind business centered in creativity, nostalgia and artistry. Located in rural Morrison, "Nostalgic Twist" has been captivating shoppers and providing a venue for local artists for just over one year and is truly a sight to behold for anyone who admires fine craftsmanship and artistry.
