Cooperstown April 2024 Meeting

Last Tuesday, the Town of Cooperstown held their monthly board meeting at their Town Hall in Rosecrans. Following the call to order, Pledge of Allegiance and roll call showing all members but Supervisor Fred Lemmens in attendance, the board unanimously approved the night's agenda and prior meeting's minutes before moving on to the monthly reports from town officials.

Maribel April 2024 Meeting

On Monday April 8, the Maribel Village Board held their monthly meeting in the Maribel Community Center. Following the call to order, the Pledge of Allegiance and the roll call, the board unanimously approved the evening's agenda, the previous meeting's minutes and the month's vouchers before moving on to input from the public.

Village of Denmark April 2024 Meeting

Last Monday afternoon, the Village of Denmark hosted their monthly board meeting at Village Hall. Following the call to order, Pledge of Allegiance and roll call showing all members present, the board opened the floor to pre-registered citizens to be heard.

State Destination Imagination

Last weekend, Denmark students from across multiple grade levels made an impressive showing at the state level showcasing their imagination and creativity. On Saturday, April 6, 17 students from Denmark Elementary and High School competed as three teams in the Wisconsin State Destination Imagination competition at UWGB.

Forensics 2024

Last week, several students from Denmark High School wrapped up another wildly successful season of competition in the Wisconsin Forensic Coaches Association (WFCA). For ten years now, a number of DHS students have been taking part in the league with growing numbers and success each year.

Purple Cupcake Day 2024

On Friday, April 12, Blossoms in Denmark hosted a tasty yearly tradition for a great cause. That day, the shop was packed with visitors for the annual "Purple Cupcake Day' aimed at raising money for epilepsy awareness. The Denmark News was live on the scene to learn more about this unique initiative and the benefits it provides.

DHS wins big at State FBLA

Last week, young future business leaders from across the state gathered at the KI Convention Center in Green Bay for the annual Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) State Leadership Conference and Competition. Among them were 78 Denmark High School Students competing in over 20 categories and finding a great deal of success against 165 other schools.

DHS Prom Court 2024

Last week, the Denmark High School Class of 2025 was excited to announce this year’s Junior Prom Court. The seven couples will reign over this year’s dance on Saturday, April 20th with the King and Queen being named following the Grand March. The dance will be held in the DHS Purple Gymnasium and will feature a “Lantern Festival” theme.

Local rugby receives boost

Last month, we reported on OneDenmark's selection for a Brown County Tourism Enhancement Grant. While their selection will no doubt have the most impact on the Denmark community, another of the seven awarded this year will no doubt have a positive effect for young area athletes for years to come. Of the $3.2 million allotted for the tourism grant program, Northeast Wisconsin Rugby Foundation was awarded $200,000 for their planned facility project.

Sting Cancer Meat Raffle

Last Saturday, DD's Saloon in downtown Denmark was packed wall to wall with people who were out to win great prizes and support a terrific cause. That afternoon, the tavern hosted the first ever Denmark Sting Cancer Meat Raffle featuring a variety of prizes and fun for all.

Our Savior's Food Drive

On Sunday, Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Denmark commemorated the conclusion of a weeks long competition aimed at helping those in need in our community. That morning, the 4th and 5th grade Sunday School students delivered a massive pile of donations to The Denmark Community Cupboard and celebrated their victory over the rest of the congregation in this year's Lenten Food Drive.

Behind the scenes of "The Play That Goes Wrong"

During this weekend's spring play at Denmark High School, disaster is guaranteed to ensue as a litany of things "go wrong". Throughout the show, actors will become incapacitated, crew members will misplace props and the set will quite literally fall apart at the seams. All of this is just the tip of the iceberg for "The Play That Goes Wrong" which is sure to have audiences rolling in the aisles with laughter and wondering what calamity is next.

2024 Lions Consignment Auction

On Saturday, April 6, the Denmark Lions Club hosted their annual Consignment Auction fundraiser in the Northeast Asphalt Quarry just south of Denmark. The event featured hundreds upon hundreds of bidders and spectators and over 500 auction items. The Denmark News was live on the scene to take in this year's auction action and learn more about this long-running fundraising event.

April Snow

Last week, the unusual weather that has accompanied the year 2024 became even more abnormal. In a year that saw an extremely low amount of snowfall throughout winter, the first week of April was plagued with frequent, and at times substantial, snow.

Free admission to Neville Public Museum

Most readers are aware of the Neville Public Museum in Green Bay and their extensive collection that features exhibits detailing a wide variety of history, science and art. However, many may not be aware of a program the museum offers that provides free admission for Brown County residents once every month.

Solar Eclipse this Monday

This Monday, much of the United States is set to experience an incredible astrological event that won't be seen again for two decades. On April 8, a total solar eclipse will pass over much of the country, providing a truly spectacular sight to ponder for many residents.
