In the 1930s and 1940s, Highway 141 between Denmark and Bellevue was a risky stretch of road. In the early days of automobiles and paved roads, the roads were not built to the same standards that they are today. This stretch of highway was built with concrete and included low shoulders. If any cars came close to the side of the road, then they risked skidding on the edge of the road where there was a drop off due to the low shoulder.

On Wednesday, February 1, despite frigid temperatures, dozens gathered near the foot of the water tower in Denmark for a historic ground breaking ceremony. At 2 pm that afternoon, representatives from the Village of Denmark joined together with members of the Central Brown County Water Authority, for a ceremony to mark the start of construction of Denmark's new water system that will link the village to the Authority's transmission system.

From the Mom and Pop shops to the quaint boutiques to the businesses that have stood the test of time. Main Street USA serves as the heart of towns of all sizes.

On Sunday, January 22, people of all faiths were welcomed to come together at Gatherings 43 in Denmark for a special, one-of-a-kind event. On that evening, the hall was host to the annual "Ecumenical Dinner" where members of all the different churches in our community gathered for fellowship and a great meal.

While the announcement of Village Hall acquiring new premises  in the former BMO Harris Bank building may be good news for some in the community, many readers were understandably upset.

Last Tuesday, January 24, was a dark day for the Denmark community. Not because of any cataclysmic event nor tragedy, but because the lights were all out. For three hours last Tuesday morning, 3,600 customers over a large portion of the Denmark area were completely out of power. Businesses shuttered and people sat about waiting for the power to return wondering what the cause of this sudden failure was.

On Sunday, January 29, Green Bay Youth Rugby will be hosting a free co-ed Flag Rugby Clinic in the Denmark Middle School Gymnasium. The event is open to students in grades 3-8. The clinic will be a short introduction to the sport and its rules as well as some hands-on playing so students can gauge their interest in the sport.

If you happen to stop by Degrand's Family Restaurant on a Tuesday morning recently, you probably saw one or two uniformed officers visiting with the public while they enjoyed their coffee. No, these officers were not on a coffee break. For the past couple months, the Denmark police officers have been taking part in a weekly event, "Coffee with a Cop", at the restaurant.

This month, The Forst Inn Arts Collective, headquartered at the historic Forst Inn in downtown Tisch Mills, had big news regarding the coming year. 2023 will be a big year for the small town theater with the arts collective announcing an exciting schedule of performances as well as major renovation projects that will soon be under way in the historic building.

With a new year comes new happenings and changes, even for a small village like Denmark. One of the biggest changes to come in Denmark in 2023 will be the relocation of the Village Hall and its associated offices.

As early as 1905, Green Bay businessmen were looking to open a state bank in the growing community of Denmark. At the time, Denmark residents needed to travel to Green Bay or De Pere for their banking needs, which was a long trip.
