Denmark Fire Department pays tribute

Last week, the Denmark Volunteer Fire Department paid tribute to a longtime member with a special visit to his home. On Monday, the department honored Darrel Hansen, who has transitioned to an Honorary Member, for his decades of service with a surprise presentation on his front lawn accompanied by members and an array of firetrucks and support vehicles.

Village of Denmark Plan Commission Meeting July 2024

Last Monday, the Village of Denmark Plan Commission held a public hearing followed by a meeting at the Denmark Village Hall. At 4:30 p.m., the public hearing was called to order to address changes to Municipal Code Chapter 265. Village President Susan Selner briefly went over the proposed changes which included dedication for new land improvements, a rewrite of the subdivision ordinance and an update to current standards and requirements.

OneDenmark unveils bold vision for Community Center

Last week, OneDenmark members were proud to present three high-quality architectural renderings of what their soon-to-be Community Center could look like. The images, prepared by Somerville Architects and Engineers of Green Bay, paint a bold and impressive vision of a beautiful community space in the now-vacated Early Childhood Center (ECC) building on North Wall Street.

Boys of Summer 2024

Last weekend, the air in Hebel's Corners and Denmark was filled with the iconic sounds of the season as the Boys of Summer Fast-Pitch Softball Tournament took the field for its 24th playing. Friday through Sunday, the crack of bats and the smack of gloves could be heard at both Circle Tap and Memorial Park as 12 elite teams of the world's best softball talent took part in this year's contest.

Movie in the park

On Thursday, July 11, Memorial Park in the heart of Denmark was teeming with energy and excitement. That night, all were welcome to attend a special "Movie Night" on the park's upper ball diamond with nearly 250 people taking advantage of the opportunity. The Denmark News was live on the scene to learn more about this fun and free community event.

Village of Denmark July 2024 Meeting

Last Monday, the Denmark Village Board held their monthly meeting in Village Hall. Following the call to order, the Pledge of Allegiance and the roll call showing all members in attendance, the board opened the floor to comments from pre-registered citizens. Municipal Court Judge Pamela J. Watzka used this time to update the board on the recent resignation of the court's clerk.

Cooperstown July 2024 Meeting

On Tuesday, July 9, the Cooperstown Town Board held their monthly meeting in their Town Hall in Rosecrans. Following the call to order, Pledge of Allegiance and roll call that showed all three members in attendance, the board unanimously approved the night's agenda as well as the minutes from their last meeting before moving on to the monthly reports.

Denmark KC Appreciation Night

Last Tuesday, the Denmark Knights of Columbus Father Platta Council 4735 hosted a special annual night of acknowledgement and reflection. That night, the council hosted their annual Appreciation Night dinner in the All Saints Parish Hall.

Mishicot Summer Concerts 2024

This summer, music is in the air each Wednesday night in Mishicot with another lineup of stellar concerts for all to enjoy. Each week, the Mishicot Area Growth & Improvement Committee (MAGIC) hosts a fun and free concert on the grounds of Mishicot Middle School that features a wide variety of top-notch talent.

Kellnersville Fireworks 2024

Last Wednesday, the skies over Kellnersville were filled with blinding flashes and concussive blasts in an annual display of patriotic tradition. That night, the Kellnersville Betterment Association (KBA) hosted their annual fireworks display at the village park in downtown K-City.

Main Street Market changes hands

Last week, a longtime Denmark institution entered a new era under a new owner. On Monday, July 1st, it was announced the ownership of Main Street Market in downtown Denmark had been transferred from Dave Bielinski, who had operated the store for over two decades, to new owner Chiranjibi Lamchane.

Remembering the Tornado of '94

Last Friday, the Denmark area observed a meteorological milestone. Thirty years ago to the day, on July 5, 1994, an EF4 tornado carved through a two-and-a-half-mile stretch near Zander Road in the Town of Cooperstown. The tornado arrived without warning and left a devastated path of destruction in its wake. Looking at the site now, one would never know the havoc that ripped through the area three decades ago.

Boys of Summer preview

This weekend, one and all are welcome to come check out some world-class softball talent right here in the Denmark area. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the annual Boys of Summer fastpitch softball tournament will take the field at Circle Tap and Memorial Park for three days of non-stop athletic action featuring talent from across the world.

Referendum construction summer update

With summer now in full swing, construction on the new addition to Denmark Elementary School has been proceeding at a rapid pace. With students and staff sent home for summer, contractors have been able to put their already-rapid progress into overdrive to make sure the space is ready for its scheduled move-in date next month.

Mr. Laettner comes to town

Last week, young athletes from the Denmark area and beyond had the unique opportunity to learn from a legend in their sport. On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, former NCAA superstar Christian Laettner hosted a 3-day basketball camp in the large gymnasium at Denmark High School. The Denmark News stopped by the last day of the camp to learn more about this special experience.

"Cruise for a Cause" visits Denmark

Last Saturday, Denmark was visited by a unique group of veterans traveling for a great cause. That afternoon, this year's Wisconsin Legion Riders "Cruise for a Cause", entitled "Stu's Cruise-24", thundered its way through our community making a stop at the Denmark American Legion Clubhouse. The Denmark News was live on the scene to learn more about the group and their journey.
