Referendum construction update

With the new school year rapidly approaching, the final stages of the extensive referendum updates to the Denmark School District campus are well underway. With classes back in session in less than two short weeks, contractors and district staff have been hard at work making sure everything is ready for the students' first day.

Krahn Family Farm celebrates 150 years

This month, an area family is celebrating and commemorating a number of significant milestones. On Tuesday, August 8, 51 families from throughout the state were honored with the "Sesquicentennial Farm Award" at the Wisconsin State Fair, recognizing 150 years of continuous family ownership. Among this year's honorees was the Bruce and Diane Krahn family, who still reside on the former family farm on Park Road in the Town of Morrison.

Minecraft: Our Savior's Edition

This year, a new and exciting program is taking shape at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Denmark. Over the course of the summer, organizers at the church have been hard at work setting up and perfecting their own Minecraft virtual world for young people, as well as adults with creative minds, to enjoy together.

Village of Denmark August 2024 meeting

Last Monday, the Village of Denmark held their monthly board meeting in the back meeting room of Village Hall. Prior to the regular monthly meeting, a Public Hearing was held to give Village residents an opportunity to give their input on a request from the Plan Commission to change the zoning for a number of properties in the municipality.

Maribel August 2024 meeting

On Monday, August 12, the Village of Maribel held their monthly board meeting in their Community Center in Maribel Village Park. Following the call to order, the Pledge of Allegiance and the roll call, the board unanimously approved their last meeting's minutes as well as the deposits and vouchers for June and July.

Stangelville 160th & Kermis

Last Sunday, the small community of Stangelville came alive to commemorate a historical milestone and celebrate its rich heritage. That day, the town came together to observe the 160th anniversary of the St. Lawrence Catholic Parish as well as a traditional "Kermis" harvest celebration. The Denmark News was in attendance to learn more about this small town celebration.

Rooster's Coop opens for business

Last week, a longtime Denmark area institution entered a new era. On Monday, August 5, Cassie's Coop officially changed hands with new owners Jeremy Lambert and Alyssa Davis taking over the acclaimed tavern and rebranding it "Rooster's Coop". On Wednesday, The Denmark News sat down with the young couple to learn more about their new venture.

"Arise and Run Duathlon"

On Saturday, the streets of Denmark and the surrounding area featured the presence of a number of competitors taking part in an event that was the first ever of its kind. That morning, the newly-formed Arise Church hosted the first ever "Arise & Run Duathlon" starting and finishing in Denmark's Memorial Park. 

Prince of Peace Picnic 2024

On Sunday, thousands upon thousands of people converged on Willow Road for an annual summer tradition. That day, Prince of Peace Catholic Community held their annual Picnic & Car Show on their parish grounds featuring a day jam-packed with fun activities for everyone to enjoy.

One Degree Mission Trip 2024

Last month, a group of caring and dedicated local young people and chaperones made a pilgrimage of service across the country to help those in need. From July 6-18, 21 area residents made the long journey from Denmark to Jenkins, Kentucky, to help others and grow their connection with God at the same time as part of this year's One Degree Youth Ministry Mission Trip.

Glenmore August 2024 meeting

Last Monday, the Glenmore Town Board held their monthly board meeting in their community center near Shirley. Prior to the meeting, the board hosted a Public Hearing to hear public comments on proposed revisions to the town's Zoning and Municipal Code. First, they discussed possible changes to Chapter F of the code regarding agricultural zoning to permit "non-metallic mining".

Zoomobile visits Denmark

Last Thursday, the shelter house in Denmark's Memorial Park was filled with people and excitement thanks to some special critter visitors and their knowledgeable handlers. That morning, Brown County Library partnered with the NEW Zoo for a special visit from the "Zoomobile" accompanied by a presentation for area youngsters to enjoy during the weekly Story Time in Memorial Park.

45th Les Johnson Memorial Shoot

On Sunday, the sound of repetitive gunfire and the smell of powder filled the air from the northeastern corner of the Village of Denmark. That day, the Denmark Rod & Gun Club opened their doors for the 45th Annual Les Johnson Memorial Shoot featuring over one hundred of the area's top shooters competing over six hours of rapid-fire action.

Coopapalooza 2024

Last weekend, the corner of Cooperstown Road and County Highway NN was overflowing with energy and excitement for a one-of-a-kind summer celebration. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Cassie's Coop hosted their annual August bash which also served as a farewell for this iteration of the business with new ownership taking over on Monday morning. The Denmark News was live on the scene to learn more.

DAYF Fundraiser

Last Friday, all were welcome to come out and enjoy a night of summer fun while supporting young area athletes at the same time. That night, the Denmark Area Youth Football Grid-Iron Booster Club hosted their annual summer fundraiser at Duck Creek Winery & Vineyard  just north of Langes Corners featuring food, prizes and fun for all to enjoy.

Denmark Community Resource Event

On Monday, July 29, several local and county organizations worked together to provide a "Community Resource Event" for residents of the Denmark area. That afternoon, the Denmark Community Cupboard, Brown County United Way and the Northeast Wisconsin Community Clinic partnered up in front of the now former Early Childhood Center (ECC) to provide important information and donated items to any and all in need.
