Denmark businesses shine again at BC Taste of Wisconsin

Last Tuesday, two local businesses were recognized and awarded for their culinary abilities to craft delectable products with quality ingredients from our state. That night, both Ampersand Cake Co. and Duck Creek Vineyard & Winery were featured artisans in this year's 10th Annual Brown County Taste of Wisconsin at Stadium View in Green Bay with both businesses claiming victory in their respective categories.

Wimpy's last hurrah

Next month, one and all have the chance to witness the end of an era and the close of a chapter in local history with a spectacular star-studded performance at the Meyer Theater in Green Bay. On March 14, the one and only Tom "Wimpy" "TV Tommy" VanGroll will present a "Farewell to Magic" concert at the acclaimed theater featuring music, stories, laughs and great music.

Denmark Dance Team Performs at State

Last weekend, members of the Denmark High School Dance Team had the chance to shine on an even bigger stage during the Wisconsin Association of Cheer & Pom Coaches (WACPC) State Competition in La Crosse. There, the team performed in both Kick and Hip Hop and two members also performed as soloists.

Glenmore February meeting

Last Monday, the Town of Glenmore held a Public Hearing followed by their monthly board meeting in their Community Center near Shirley. The meeting was once again attended by upwards of 50 town residents along with town officials.

Fire in Morrison

In the early hours of Friday morning, multiple area fire departments were called to the scene of a barn fire on Stark Road in the Town of Morrison. Crews first arrived at the fire around 3:30 a.m. and began battling the flames that were engulfing the structure. A number of area departments were reported to have responded including Morrison, Brillion, Ledgeview, Lawrence, Maribel, Wayside, Greenleaf and Denmark.

Pep Band Senior Night 2025

During Friday’s Varsity Girls Basketball game against the Luxemburg-Casco Spartans, the Denmark High School Pep Band took the opportunity to recognize and honor members who will be graduating at the end of this school year. Prior to the game, throughout the first half and at halftime, the Pep Band belted out a number of the senior’s favorite tunes including “Starships”, “Stacy’s Mom” and “Crazy Train”.

Bank First construction update

On January 17, the final day of business took place in the former Denmark State Bank building in downtown Denmark. The following Monday, Bank First resumed business in a temporary banking facility located in the parking lot behind the decommissioned building. Bank First will continue to offer customers their banking services from this unit throughout the deconstruction of the old bank and the construction of the new.

Harpt's Lake Ice Fishing Derby 2025

This weekend, the ice covering Harpt’s Lake in the Town of Gibson was humming with activity and excitement. From Saturday morning through Sunday afternoon, anglers from across the area and beyond converged on the small body of water for the 42nd Annual Harpt’s Lake Ice Fishing Derby presented and facilitated by the Larrabee Sportsman’s Club.

Big changes underway at Our Savior's

Last month, 116 voting members of the Our Savior's Lutheran congregation gathered and officially passed a resolution to begin the process of disaffiliation with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). This historic decision will have to be ratified at their next meeting in May, and congregants will spend the coming months thinking and praying on the matter.

Reisterer & Schnell buys Eis Implement

Last month, the local agricultural community received big news regarding two area implement dealers. On Friday, January 17, it was officially announced that Eis Implement of Two Rivers had been acquired by Riesterer & Schnell of Pulaski. This merger may have long-lasting implications for many area farmers and will no doubt change the area agribusiness landscape for years to come.

Catholic Schools Week 2025

Last week, All Saints Catholic School in Denmark, along with Catholic learning institutions across the country, took part in Catholic Schools Week 2025. Throughout the week, schools hosted a variety of fun and faith-filled activities to celebrate what makes their schools great and promote the benefits of a Catholic education. In Denmark, students and staff at All Saints had a whirlwind week filled with memorable events and adventures.

Fire in Gibson

On Saturday, multiple area fire departments were called to the scene of a house fire on Nachtwey Road in the Town of Gibson. The fire is believed to have started shortly after noon with the first fire crews arriving soon after to find the adjoining garage in flames. Crews immediately went about extinguishing the flames while also trying to save the connected house with smoke being visible for miles around.

American Legion Oratorical Contest: Brown County

On Saturday, the Denmark American Legion Post 363 hosted the Brown County level of the 2025 American Legion Oratorical Contest at their Post building on Railroad Avenue. This comes one week after they hosted the Post Level of the competition at Denmark High School.

Ken Seering Ag Science Lab

On Sunday, dozens gathered in the ag lab in the addition to Denmark High School to honor and reminisce with an area agricultural legend. That afternoon, the space was officially renamed the "Ken Seering Ag Science Lab" and a dedication celebration was held to mark the occasion. The Denmark News stopped by to learn more.

Fire in Menchalville

In the early hours of Friday morning, a historic landmark and former community fixture was completely destroyed by fire. For hours, nearly a dozen area fire departments fought to suppress flames that eventually consumed the former Reindl's Countryside Inn in Menchalville.

Closed sessions

Over the past year, many residents in the Village of Denmark, including this reporter, have grown concerned with the frequency of "closed sessions" during the monthly municipal board meetings. More often than not, the final item on the board's meeting agendas is to convene into closed session where the public is not permitted, and the minutes are not publicly released.
