DENMARK HISTORY - George Enze retired as rural mail carrier in 1940

In the early days of rural settlement, local residents had to travel to their local post office to pick up their mail instead of getting it delivered to their houses. Small post offices sprang up across the countryside. Locally, there were post offices located in Langes Corners, Fontenoy, Buckman, Stark, Hebels Corners, and Denmark. In the late 19th Century, a push began for rural delivery.
