On Thursday, State Senator André Jacque announced he would not be seeking re-election for another four-year term representing Wisconsin’s 1st Senate District in Madison this November.

While many may usually make plans away from home for the 4th of July, this year, a group of local organizations is giving area residents a reason to stay in town and celebrate our nation’s 250th anniversary as a community. 

On Friday morning, dozens of Denmark High School (DHS) students took to the streets of the village on a variety of tractors of all shapes and sizes to commemorate our local agricultural ties. That morning, over 34 tractors made their way through downtown for this year’s Tractor Day. The Denmark News was live on the scene to learn more.

On Friday and Saturday, hundreds upon hundreds filled the yards, driveways and side streets of Denmark for a yearly tradition that combines bargain hunting with spring cleaning. The 35th Annual Denmark Villagewide Rummage Sale unfolded on Friday and Saturday with over 85 individual sales taking place throughout the municipality and surrounding countryside.

Grey Fox Bar & Grill hosted Mishicot’s 2026 Prom on Saturday, April 25. The theme for Prom this year was “Tangled” with gold, purple, and white decorations throughout the dance. There was a great turnout at Grey Fox with many students also bringing their friends or dates from other schools.

Planting season is now upon us with gardeners and green thumbs across the area rushing to get their hands on this year’s assortment of blooms and veggies. Locally, Larry’s Bellevue Gardens has provided a one-stop-shop for all your garden needs for nearly 30 years. For this year’s Spring Home & Garden issue, we spoke with Larry and Vicki to learn more about their business and what this spring has in store.

For this year’s The Denmark News Spring Home & Garden section, we teamed up with a local lawn and garden and motorsports expert just to our south. For decades now, TA Motorsports has been serving the motorized recreation and landscaping needs of the greater area from their home base in Francis Creek. Last week, we spoke with TA’s Rich Rothmund to learn more about all they have to offer.

Last Wednesday, first grade students from Mrs. Marie and Mrs. Menard’s classes commemorated Earth Day by taking part in a special nature walk around the school grounds. During Saturday’s Bellevue Rummage Sales, 9th Street Wellness Center hosted a Flood Relief Donation Drive. Organizers collected personal care items, non-perishable food, new and gently-used clothing and children’s necessities for victims of the historic flooding earlier this month. The center will host another drive on May 9 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. during their first Farmers Market of the Year.

Last Wednesday, ten Denmark students and three members of Denmark American Legion Post 363 ventured to Green Bay for this year’s Brown County American Legion Youth Government Day.

Earlier this month, five Denmark High School (DHS) students faced off with their peers from across the state in public speaking and acting at this year’s Wisconsin Forensics Coaches Association (WFCA) State Tournament.

With the weather finally warming up, running season is upon us at last. This year, a group of dedicated students and their teachers are once again coming together after school to train for the area’s most prestigious run. Last week, we spoke with Denmark Elementary School (DES) teacher Connie Davister to learn more about this year’s Bellin Run Club in Denmark.

This past weekend, bargain hunters and deal seekers across our area rejoiced as the 2026 rummage sale season kicked off with the yearly sales in Maribel.

With spring now upon us, a group of local residents have their eyes set on beautifying our community with public art. During this month's Village of Denmark monthly board meeting, members from Denmark Connects presented their vision of some potential public art installations and their plans to make them a reality.

Last week, two intersections in the Village of Denmark received new features aimed at increasing pedestrian safety. On Thursday, Public Works employees installed new crossing signs with Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) at both the intersection of Highridge Avenue and North Wall Street as well as the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue, Main Street and North Wall Street.

Spring is one of the busiest and most exciting times of the year for the Mishicot High School floral program. Students in the floral design class are putting their creativity and teamwork skills to the test as they complete 38 prom flower orders while also preparing for the upcoming plant sale on May 8th and Mother’s Day arrangements.
