C&C Small Library

A new initiative has just launched at Denmark's Main Street Market that should have all local book lovers rejoicing. In the last couple weeks, a new shelf has appeared in the store that does not contain any food products or anything that is even for sale. The "C&C Small Library" aims to provide a variety of books to adult readers at no cost and is currently stocked with a number of great reads to borrow.

FFA National Convention 2024

Last month, a number of local young leaders made a nearly 800-mile round-trip journey to represent our community on the national stage. From October 22-26, sixteen members of the Denmark High School FFA and their advisors traveled to Indianapolis for this year’s FFA National Convention.

Throughout the 1800s, the area comprising the Village of Denmark and the Township of New Denmark went by several names.

Halloween 2024

Last Thursday, legions of costumed youngsters and their families took to the streets in neighborhoods across the country in search of this year's fill of sweet treats. The annual Halloween traditions were in full swing in Denmark and surrounding communities with plenty of fun and candy for all who took part in this year's trick or treat tradition.

"The Addams Family" takes the stage

The spooky season continues this weekend and next at Denmark High School with the staging of a hit musical that features a family of characters that are as kooky as they are iconic. “The Addams Family” is set for six performances in the DHS Performing Arts Center that are sure to leave audiences stunned by the level of local talent on full display.

Denmark Equestrian Team Reserve State Champions

Last weekend, four Denmark students made an impressive showing on the state equestrian stage. On October 25-27, the Denmark Equestrian Team competed in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Horsemanship Association State Championship in Madison earning the Reserve Champion title for their efforts. Last week, we sat down with the team and their coaches to learn more about this exciting season.

Veterans Banquet 2024

Last Saturday, members of the Denmark VFW Post #6705 and American Legion Johnson-Hershman Post #363 came together for an annual tradition celebrating those in our area who have served in our nation’s armed forces. That night, area veterans and their families joined together at Gatherings 43 in Denmark for their annual Veterans Day Banquet honoring service men and women from our community and beyond.

Proposed Village of Denmark Golf Cart Ordinance

During their meeting last month, the Denmark Village Board discussed and approved language for Village of Denmark Ordinance No. 2024-13 Chapter 208-18(A) allowing the regulated use of golf carts on designated municipal streets. While many residents may be excited for this development, it does come with a number of rules and regulations for golf cart owners and operators.

Denmark Trunk or Treat 2024

Last Saturday, the new parking lot in front of Denmark Elementary School was transformed into a spooky spectacular with tons of fun and sweet treats to enjoy. That afternoon, Devoted to Denmark hosted the 12th annual Denmark Trunk or Treat event in the lot featuring a variety of festive displays and mountains of candy for costumed youngsters to enjoy. For the love of blue and gold

This October has been quite the month for local agricultural legend Ken Seering. On October 14, the Denmark School Board unanimously granted naming rights to the school's Agricultural Science Lab to Seering in recognition of his years of dedication and service to the district and the community at large, and the next day, he celebrated his 80th birthday.

Denmark Boy Scout food collection

On Saturday, local Boy Scouts and adult helpers could be seen across the Denmark and Maribel area collecting bags of items from residents. That morning, the Scouts took part in this year's Fall Food Drive and collected, transported and sorted hundreds upon hundreds of donated items for the Denmark Community Cupboard and Maribel Food Pantry.

Trailhead vandalism

In recent months, the Denmark DEOs and Village Board have noticed an uptick in vandalism in and around the "Denmark Depot" building located at the Devils River State Recreational Trailhead near the intersection of Pine Street and Railroad Avenue. Last week, we sat down with DEO JJ Rusk to learn more about this growing issue and what residents can do to help.

Fall Choir Concert

Last Monday, the Performing Arts Center at Denmark High School was filled with the sounds of seasonal, autumnal music. That night, the Denmark Middle School and High School Choirs hosted back-to-back concerts featuring a variety of songs that showcased their vocal talent. The Denmark News was in attendance to learn more about this season's display of young, local musicians.

Maribel diamonds resurfaced

Last week, the Tower Excavating team was hard at work giving the Maribel baseball diamonds a new and improved surface. On Monday and Tuesday, crews spent hours digging out the old sand from the infields and replacing it with a brand new mixture for improved play in next year’s season.

OneDenmark gets ECC

Last Monday, the Denmark High School Media Center was host to a historic vote which may have a significant impact on the community for years to come. That night, the Denmark School Board unanimously voted in favor of granting the former Early Childhood Center (ECC) to OneDenmark so they may renovate the structure to create the Denmark Community Center and Library.

Maribel Trunk or Treat 2024

On Saturday, the grounds around St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church were transformed into a spectacularly spooky Halloween haven for all to enjoy. That afternoon, the congregation hosted their 5th annual Trunk or Treat event featuring nearly 50 distinct "trunks" for area youngsters and their families to visit and load up on seasonal treats.
