Village of Denmark May 2024 meeting

Last Monday, the Village of Denmark hosted their monthly board meeting in their Village Hall. Following the call to order, Pledge of Allegiance and roll call which showed all members in attendance, pre-registered village residents were heard by the board. First, two representatives of Christ Lutheran Church on the municipality's southeastern side expressed concerns they had with the village's sign approval process.

May School Board meeting

On Monday, May 13, the Denmark School Board held their monthly meeting in the Denmark High School Media Center. Following the call to order, the Pledge of Allegiance and the roll call, the board opened the floor for the meeting's Public Forum.

Christian Unity Luncheon

Last Wednesday, the hall at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Denmark was filled with the warmth of community as well as the smell of delicious food. That afternoon, the Denmark Christian Unity Group hosted a special Spaghetti Luncheon featuring food, faith and fellowship.

Academic & Scholarship Celebration 2024

On Wednesday, May 15, Denmark High School students and their families gathered in the Performing Arts Center for a special ceremony honoring this school year's best and brightest. That night, DHS presented the annual "Academic & Scholarship" celebration which featured awards, recognition and commemoration for another outstanding academic year.

Hardware Hank Returns

This month, local handypeople and do-it-yourselfers rejoiced with the reported return of Denmark's only hardware destination--Hardware Hank. The store, which closed in February, is scheduled for a Grand Opening on June 1 under new owners Eric and Beck Laundrie. Last week, we sat down with the couple to learn more about their new venture and what it has in store for the greater Denmark community.

Denmark Sting Cancer Walk 2024

Last Saturday morning, the R. O. Miller Sports Complex was alive with excitement and activity for a special yearly event for an amazing cause. That morning, Denmark Sting Cancer hosted their 14th annual Sting Cancer Walk on the DHS track featuring a wide range of activities all centered around supporting cancer patients and survivors as well as their families.

Glenmore May meeting

On Monday, May 6, the Glenmore Town Board held their monthly meeting in the town's Community Center near Shirley. Following the call to order, Pledge of Allegiance, welcome and certification of Wisconsin Open Meeting Law, Ben Schauer provided the month's Zoning Administrator Report. Schauer detailed they had issued two permits for decks, and the town had received Bug Tussel's annual $300 permit fee.

Village road construction informational meeting

Last Monday, the Village of Denmark hosted a Public Informational Meeting at Village Hall regarding upcoming construction projects on North Avenue, North Wall Street and Danish Way. The meeting was attended by members of the public and representatives from the village and was led by Mick Magalski and Jordan Jelinski from McMahon Associates.

Eaton Rummage Sales

Last weekend, the community of Eaton was alight with activity and excitement as rummagers took advantage of a third weekend of local deal hunting. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, the municipality hosted the annual Town of Eaton Regional Rummage Sale featuring almost 40 individual registered sales and endless unique treasures for the keen eye to find.

Tractor Day 2024

Last Friday, the air in the Village of Denmark was filled with excitement, noise and engine smoke as area students took part in a beloved spring tradition celebrating local agriculture. That morning, the usual morning hustle and bustle was accompanied by the presence of over four dozen tractors trundling their way through town on the way to school.

Propson on the Price is Right

Last Tuesday, the eyes of Denmark area residents were collectively fixed on their televisions as one of our own iconic citizens took part in an iconic competition. That morning, Cooperstown native and resident Nick Propson was a featured contestant on the day's The Price is Right episode bringing his unique personality to the acclaimed gameshow.

Neshota Park mustard pull

Mustard. While a welcomed addition to a sandwich, the plant itself is an aggressive and invasive species that is detrimental to the life of other wildflowers. This year, the Friends of Neshota Park are partnering with Viking Academy to host a fun volunteer event aimed at eradicating the weed from Neshota Park.

Black Frog Farm Open House 2024

Last weekend, one and all were welcome to get an up close look at a truly unique farm. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Black Frog Farms in Maribel opened their gates for their yearly open house weekend featuring tours, interactions with a variety of animals and lots of fun. The Denmark News checked out the open house on Saturday to see just what Black Frog Farm was all about.

Wellner Way dedication

Last Wednesday, the Village of Denmark hosted a special ceremony to rechristen a street in honor of a long-time community fixture. That afternoon, representatives of the village and members of the Wellner family gathered as Maiden Lane was officially renamed Wellner Way in honor of the late Warren Wellner. The Denmark News was there to document the moment and share it with the public.

Denmark Rummage 2024

Last weekend, the Village of Denmark was bustling with bargain-hunting action and thrifting excitement as thousands descended on the town for an annual tradition dating back over three decades. On Friday and Saturday, the municipality hosted the 33rd Annual Denmark Village-Wide Rummage Sale sponsored by the Denmark Community Business Association (DCBA) featuring nearly 100 different sales throughout the municipality and beyond.
