Village rejects residency for sex offender

Prior to last Monday's monthly Village of Denmark Board of Trustees meeting, the municipal Sex Offender Residency Board was convened to address a request from a registered sex offender to locate within the Village. Due to the sensitive nature of this topic and out of concern for their family, we have elected to not include the name of the applicant in this article.

Mishicot - Mishicot community spreading sextortion awareness together

Community members are invited to gather Wednesday, March 18 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Fairway Inn & Suites for a Sextortion Awareness Community Event focused on educating families about online exploitation and prevention. The event is being organized by the Mishicot Police Department and the Yindra family, with support from the Wisconsin Department of Justice.

The Mishicot Boys’ Wrestling team delivered an outstanding performance on Saturday, February 14, at the Sectional Tournament held at Omro High School. Competing against some of the top wrestlers in the area, the Indians rose to the challenge and showcased their determination, skill, and resilience on the mat.

Denmark Dance Team on the state stage

This weekend, a number of talented, local young people were sharing their skills and representing the Denmark community at the state level. On Friday and Saturday, the Denmark High School Dance Team traveled to La Crosse to compete in this year's Wisconsin Association of Cheer & Pom Coaches (WACPC) State Competition where they faced off against other top teams in Division 3 Hip-Hop.

A family tradition

For a decade and a half, it has been a Denmark destination for everything from family breakfasts, to lunches with friends, to wedding dinners and anything in between. Since opening its doors in the early months of 2011, DeGrand Family Restaurant has established itself as a premier local dining option as well as a staple of the community. This week, the eatery is celebrating their 15th anniversary with a community bash planned for Saturday night.

The week without internet

Last week, students and staff in the Denmark School District were forced "back in time" when a reported "cyber incident" caused the loss of internet access across all facilities. For five school days, teachers and their classes had to find ways to make do without this now-vital resource. The Denmark News spoke with staff, students and administration to learn more.

Czarneski advances further in Legion speaking contest

On Saturday, DHS senior Barrett Czarneski made another impressive showing during this year’s American Legion District 9 Oratorical Scholarship Competition. After victories at the post and county level in December and January, Czarneski earned first place yet again and will now advance to the regional competition on March 28 in Ripon with a chance to qualify for the state finals to follow that same afternoon.

United Way hosts "Community Conversation" in Denmark

Last Thursday, representatives from United Way stopped by Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Denmark for a special collaboration with OneDenmark aimed at identifying needs and issues that are affecting the greater area. The Denmark News was in attendance to learn more. 

MacDowell Male Chorus concert scheduled for March 1

Music lovers of all ages are invited to Denmark High School (DHS) on March 1 for a special performance showcasing amazing vocal talent. That afternoon, the Denmark Knights of Columbus Father Platta Council #4735 will host the renowned MacDowell Male Chorus in the school’s Performing Arts Center (PAC) for a concert that is sure to please.

FFA members "pop in and say thanks" at local businesses

Last week, members of the Denmark High School FFA were out and about spreading gratitude. On February 3, FFA members visited a number of local businesses and farms to “pop in and say thanks”.
