Next Saturday, communities across the country will come together to commemorate and celebrate our nation’s 250th anniversary. While Denmark is not usually home to an Independence Day celebration, this year, to honor the semisesquicentennial, local veterans and community organizations are working together to present a fun and free event for everyone to enjoy and celebrate their country.

During last Monday’s monthly School Board meeting, one of the final items on the agenda was appointing a new member to fill a vacancy. On April 22, School Board Vice President Paula Larsen, who was re-elected to her seat for another three-year term on April 7, announced she would be stepping down from the position after over 18 years due to the fact that she will soon be moving out of the district.

While the Denmark Vikings Softball Team were unfortunately not featured on the field during this year's WIAA State Softball Championship, one familiar Denmark face was. On June 12 and 13, Denmark's own Toby Olsen ventured down to Madison where he put his umpiring skills to work during three of the tournament's final games. Last week, we sat down with Olsen to learn more about the experience.

With the summer season officially begun, two area organizations are already underway with their annual outdoor concert offerings. This year, both the Mishicot Growth and Improvement Committee (MAGIC) and the Way-Morr Lions Club have a number of opportunities to get out of the house and enjoy live music free of charge.

Last week's The Denmark News featured a report on a presentation given by Brown County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy John Rousseau about the benefits of Flock Safety cameras. Last week, the Denmark Lions Club announced they will not be hosting their annual summer picnic in the park this July. A club member explained that finding help for the event each year has gotten more difficult and turnouts have been lower than the amount of effort put in warrants.

During this year’s Wisconsin State FFA Convention, Denmark’s Michael Vander Kinter was named the winner of the 2026 Agricultural Services Proficiency Award! Vander Kinter is the fourth generation involved in his family’s custom harvesting business which operates across the state and harvests nearly 30,000 acres of alfalfa, chops 8,000 acres of corn silage, combines 5,000 acres of grain and applies more than 85 million gallons of liquid manure each year.
