On Wednesday, prior to their regular monthly meeting, the Denmark VFW Post 6705 officially made a significant contribution to a new area veterans initiative. That night, the post presented a check to Gail Nohr for the Veterans 1st of Northeast Wisconsin tiny home project. The Denmark News stopped by for the presentation to learn more.

Last month, Denmark native Joshua Novak was inducted into the Ripon College Athletic Hall of Fame for his acclaimed career on the school’s football team just over a decade and a half ago. During the falls of 2007 through 2010, Novak was a force to be reckoned with on the gridiron for the Red Hawks, contributing to some of their most successful seasons to date. DENMARK – The Denmark Legion baseball team had two doubleheaders leading into the Fourth of July holiday and earned splits in both by taking one of the two games in each doubleheader against Kewaunee and Seymour.

On Saturday, Americans across the nation joined together to commemorate our country's 250th anniversary. From sea to shining sea, communities came together to honor our country and celebrate what makes it great. Locally, the Denmark American Legion Post 363, Denmark VFW Post 6705, Denmark Connects and Project Denmark came together to provide a day full of fun and free community activities to bring everyone together and mark the historic occasion.

On Friday, thousands flooded into the quiet community of Kellnersville for an annual patriotic tradition celebrating America as well as the local community. That night, the Kellnersville Betterment Association (KBA) hosted their 56th annual fireworks show featuring a festive atmosphere and a world-class pyrotechnic display. The Denmark News was in attendance to see the explosive presentation for ourselves.

Next week, a new shopping event will take over downtown Denmark with six days of deals across eight local businesses. From July 13 through the 18, the first-ever Summer Sidewalk Sales Week will offer shoppers special deals as well as a unique opportunity to shop local.

Last week, 19 Denmark High School (DHS) students returned from a whirlwind tour of Puerto Rico as part of a Global Scholars language and culture trip. While on the island, they had the opportunity to sample the local way of life and explore both its vibrant natural wonders as well as its rich history.

Earlier this year, a Denmark native traveled across the globe to help others and grow in his faith. In May, Steve Stein journeyed to Senegal as part of a Friends in Action International mission where he used his tradeskills to aid both the local population as well as fellow missionaries stationed there. Last week, we spoke with Stein to learn more about his experience and what it taught him.
